Black Coffee friends, family and fans,

We want to thank everyone for your amazing support of our music and our journey the past two years. It has truly been a great run that we have experienced together – as bandmates, friends, and the family that BC has grown to be. We have traveled to new cities and have performed with some of our biggest idols. We’ve played to small crowds, and very large ones, in the coldest of colds, and in the worst humidity you can imagine! And last but not least, we’ve met many amazing new friends along the wonderful journey. When we formed this band, our focus was to put out making great original music. The first priority of any band is the music. Given this band has members in multiple cities with multiple obligations, it has become very difficult to put the needed time in to develop our music. This hasn’t been fair to the fans or our music. We have decided to take a long-term hiatus to get back to our goal as musicians, which is to create music. Our last performance will be in Pittsburgh at Club Cafe on Nov. 30. Please come celebrate the past two years with us because it is going to be a night to remember. We will each be performing in several other projects and we look forward to supporting each other in our journeys. We hope you will come check out these new projects, listen to some great music, and say hello because it means the world to us.

Tickets for our performance on Friday 11/30 at Club Cafe are $10, and available here: Opus One Productions. Aabaraki will be kicking off the evening.

Black Coffee has had an eventful start of the summer and the month of June is looking as busy as ever. We have shows at familiar haunts and some new places as well, including our first gig at a winery, a couple of festival shows and a free concert on the streets of Pittsburgh. Keep checkin’ out our website for the latest shows and happenings . . . also don’t forget to see Vince’s latest video blog of our travels, you might be in there somewhere!

Friday, April 27th we played what was the first of 4 new venues for Black Coffee. First up was a ruckus club called the Crooked I in Erie, PA. For all of us in the group, this was our first time to Erie, so we were pumped to check this place out. We had a couple of hours after our sound check to take a walk around downtown and saw a cool mix of architecture from the late 1800′s to houses built in the 40′s, then we made our way over to Jekyll & Hyde’s for some dinner (and what turned out to be a couple of free beers!). The Crooked I is tailor-made for folks who want to see live music, which has a big raised stage, a house sound guy running a killer sound system and lights galore! And of course there is fog for those who desire the complete effect of hair metal bands!

BC performs at Arts Alive Fest on June 10th

The following week on May 3rd, we played at the Grape Room for the first time and it was also BC’s first gig in Philadelphia, PA. The Grape Room is a cool little place that is focused on having live music and giving all different types of bands a chance to play a show with a good stage and sound system. BC played on the bill with some amazing talent . . . Janet Robin, a crazy good acoustic guitarist, songwriter and a voice to boot who is a seasoned LA stalwart who has toured with many famous acts, including Lindsey Buckingham and she was given lessons while in high school from RANDY RHOADS!! Also on the bill was Christie Lenee, based out of Philly performing with a top-notch band, she is another excellent guitarist and vocalist who is starting to make some waves.

Two days later we were back down in Morgantown, WV playing at a new place for us called The Cue. A billiards hall and bar, the Cue is a huge place with 2 stages for bands. A few months ago we met the guys in the band Aristotle Jones & The Like Minds and we have been checking each other out at past shows, and thought it would cool to do a double bill together. BC hit first in the middle of the place on a square raised wooden stage that allowed the audience to view us from all directions. Then on the stage across the room, Aristotle & The Like Minds took over with their funky/hip-hop grooves. Good to see Tessa and her crew of fellow WVU graduates tearing up the dance floor!

On May 11th we played at the Rex Theater on the Southside in Pittsburgh, PA and it was one of my favorite shows to date! All of us in BC have wanted to take the stage at the Rex, a place where we have seen many of our favorite acts play, and we jumped at the chance when asked, especially after finding out who else was on the bill! Black Coffee had the honor and privilege to be the opening act for one of the greatest soul singers on the scene today . . . the one and only Lee Fields! From the first song Lee and his band were COOKIN’!! For you youtubers, there are a couple of videos of their performance this night, type in his name and the date 5-11-12 and see for yourselves. Don’t sleep on this band!! They are touring heavily all over the map, so no excuses!

June 16th - People's Natural Gas Park (Johnstown, PA)

As we continue to find the bass player that is the perfect match for the group, we are excited to have our new friend Paco Mahone holding down the low end for us at our gigs this weekend down in WV. On Friday, the 25th we are at the Morgantown Brewing Company in Morgantown, then the next night we travel a little ways south to Clarksburg where we will play at PJ Kelly’s. BC has played at both places before and the crowd, staff and atmosphere at each venue is always great, so come and check us out!

During the first few days of June, BC has 3 cool shows and they are all outside, so pray, cross fingers, do a dance, anything so we can keep up the nice weather! On the 3rd we play at the Christian W. Klay Winery in Chalk Hill, PA. On Sundays at the winery they have bands play outside and BC has the spot on the first Sunday of each month this summer. Sunshine, wine and soul on a summer day sounds like a good time! June 8th, BC is playing as part of the Southside Works outdoor concert series on the corner of Sidney St. and S. 27th St. in Pittsburgh. Check out their FB page to see all about the concert series and other happenings with the Southside Works. On Sunday, June 10th we are part of the Arts Alive Festival in Morgantown, WV where all weekend long many great acts are playing for FREE, including Keller Williams, Larry Keel & Zach Deputy!

Another show that BC is excited to play is at the site of the annual Flood City Music Festival. On June 16th they are throwing a concert to commemorate the opening of the Peoples Natural Gas Park and we were honored to accept their invitation to play. Black Coffee gets to share the stage with some of our favorite acts and serious road warriors, who have dedicated their lives to music. BC hits at 6pm, followed by Eilen Jewell, Los Straitjackets (who I remember seeing at Zeno’s Pub many years ago and they threw down!) and Tab Benoit!! The tickets are cheaper pre-sale so get a hold of yours right away!

The Hot Sauce with Lee Fields!

I just want to say on behalf of myself and the band that we know it’s not possible to do what we do without many of you out there supporting us . . . a big thanks and lots of love to the following folks (in no particular order) for helping Black Coffee along the way these past few weeks . . . Ben at Grey Area Productions for giving us a chance to play in front of another soul legend and for being one of the best promoters in the region, Andre and Dave for committing their time and bass talents to us, our good friends from C-ville who ALWAYS come out for the shows, especially Craig for holding down the merchandise table for us, to Tony at the Crooked I for having us play his killer club, Scooter at the Grape Room and Barry the sound guy there, Chelsey at Little Red Media for the pictures and shout outs on her site, Aristotle and the fellas for having us out, Lee Fields and the guys in the band for allowing us to use their backline, especially Evan for lending me his ’67 Ludwigs, my peeps Mary and Andy, my main man Josh Ferko for bringing a crew with him to our Rex gig (fellow vinyl lovers, check out Josh’s site ‘Stax of Trax’ for one of the best places to get records anywhere) Mama Cuneo for the fried chicken at practice, . . . and lastly, thanks to Courtney for breakfast at 6am after a long drive from the gig.

peace!

Mr. Friendly has been busy booking us in all of your hometowns and beyond as usual, including a few opening slots that we are pumped for, one being with a certified soul music legend! We have many shows all over the Northeast this summer, and more dates are being added each day, so please keep checking’ out our website for all the BC happenings.

The past few weeks have been flying by and we have had the privilege to play some memorable gigs with some incredible folks helping to make it all happen . . . here are a few of the highlights from the past couple of weeks.

On Friday, February, 24th the crew was back down in West Virginia at the Morgantown Brewing Company. BC has been in WV quite a bit lately and we never knew how funky the Mountaineers could be! The MBC is a great brew pub, featuring some amazing beers and good grub. We felt at home on the little stage in the corner and had a good time performing, even though a mysterious gremlin was messing with Ryan’s gear seconds before we hit! It was great to see Soul Sista Tessa again and her friends gettin’ funky.

The following Friday, March 2nd we played at P.J. Kelly’s in Clarksburg, WV. What a cool freakin’ place! The stage is large and the sound system rocks, and for the traveling musician they have a place to crash and unwind after the show. Vince & Caitlin have also been laying down some acoustic sets at this venue so check them out! We would like to thank Brandon for making the show, driving further than we did to come and hang with us! And big thanks to the staff for making sure we had some food at the end of the night going to the restaurant for us before they closed down! That is some love right there.

4/27: The Crooked I

After this year is over and looking back, our next show will always stick in my mind as one of my favorites. On Saturday, March 10th, Black Coffee played its first concert in the Arts Capitol of the World, New York City. We played at the Greenpoint Gallery, a cool spot in Brooklyn where the outside looks beat up, complete with spray paint marking the address on the rusty metal door, but when you enter and go up a flight of stairs you are in a creative, artistic place full or energy and great works of art and the people who make them. We were one of 5 acts that night and the talent level surrounding us was truly astounding. The eclectic mix of acoustic acts, soul, funk and new age made the night especially fun for the audience who were able to hear and watch something different from each individual or group. Big thanks to the other acts for sharing the stage with us . . . Arthur Lewis, Soul’d Out, House of Waters and the incredible Lynette Williams, who just floored myself and everyone else in the room. I couldn’t stop hearing her songs in my head and when I got home I ran around like a geeky fan-boy telling everyone to listen to her!

Friday, March 16th we played our first show at the Abbey Bar in Harrisburg, PA. We have played in Harrisburg a few times at different places and always have a good time in our State’s Capitol. The venue is right above the Appalachian Brewing Company and it is tailored made for seeing music . . . spacious stage, big dance floor, good sound system with someone who knows what’s up behind the knobs. BC opened for H-burg’s own, The Greatest Funeral Ever and we can’t thank them enough for their hospitality and sharing equipment. A bunch of good folks who happen to wail as a funk/jam band, complete with a hot 4 piece horn section. We have to thank Mike and the staff for having us out and we especially want to thank the many family members and friends who made it, even my very hip father in-law all the way from Georgia!

The Abbey Bar gig happened to also be Keith’s last night on bass. We want to thank Keith for all his dedication and skills that he brought to the band. He’s a good player and an even better dude. I’m sure he will be playing around his hometown area and we’ll run into him in the future. For the next several weeks we have the honor to have the talented Andre La Velle back in the mix sitting in on bass for us for a few shows. My main man Funky Dre has been busy being first chair contrabass in the local symphony and playing upright bass all over the place with the jazz bands in the area, so he feels good to be laying down the funk again!

March 23rd, BC was back at the Morgantown Brewing Company and the dance floor was BUMPIN’! We know that most of the WVU students were away on Spring Break, but those who stayed in town and came down to check us out were ready to party! Also, it was good to see Mama & Papa Cuneo and their friends in the audience, and as always a big thanks to Sarah & the crew for the show. We had such a good 3 month residency that BC just signed on for the rest of the year! Starting in May, we will be at the MBC 1 Friday a month, usually the 4th or last Friday, so keep on the lookout!

Friday, March 30th we were at the famous Red Horse Tavern in Pleasant Gap, PA. just outside of State College, our old stomping grounds. We love playing in central PA. where we got our start and the Red Horse was packed with many old-time friends and family coming out for the show. Just so you know you CAN find some dance floor in the Red Horse, which was proven by a few hip-shakin’ party people!

The next night we traveled out to Cape May, NJ to take part in the Singer/Songwriter showcase, with our performance at the Boiler Room at Congress Hall on Beach Avenue. We are trying to hit all of the States in the Northeast this year and this was our first time performing in New Jersey. The showcase had many great artists and we enjoyed the cozy little bar underground. Thanks to the band, Amber Blues for allowing us to use some of your equipment.

On April 12th we were back in one of my favorite cities, Pittsburgh, PA. We once again played at the James Street Gastropub & Speakeasy on the North side. A funky little spot on the corner of James and Phineas, and what some consider a mini-historical jazz joint (check out the legend jazz drummer Roger Humphries on certain nights of the week). Big thanks to Dave Pfister for sitting in on bass with us and playing some funky azz stuff! Don’t sleep on this place . . . they are bringing in great acts and helping to build a music community in the area.

5/11: Rex Theater w/ Lee Fields

We have some cool shows coming up over the next several weeks . . . This coming Friday, on the 27th, Black Coffee makes our first voyage to Erie, PA to play at the Crooked I. We have heard great things about this place and look forward to funkin’ it out for the folks on the lake. On Thursday, May 3rd we will be in the Philadelphia area at the Grape Room. We are pretty pumped to be playing there our first time and have heard that it is a great venue for live music. A couple of days later, Saturday May 5th we will be down in Morgantown, WV at the Cue on High Street. We will be sharing the bill with some new friends of ours, Aristotle Jones & The Like Minds. We met these guys back at the MMC in Harrisburg a couple of months ago and they really rip it up on stage with their blend of soul, funk and a little hip-hop flavor. A bunch of talent and cool mofos to boot! That will be one funky Saturday night!

One show I want to tell you all about that I think will be one of the best soul/funk shows happening in the area this year! On May 11th, BC will be opening for the legendary Lee Fields & The Expressions! We are honored to be sharing the stage with one of the greatest soul singers touring today. The show is at the Rex Theatre in Pittsburgh, PA on East Carson Street, one of the premiere music venues in the city. You can purchase tickets ahead of time and they are only 12 bucks! A crazy great deal for a soul legend!

The summer is here for the BC crew and we are lining up dates all over the Northeast, including PJ Kelly’s down in Clarksburg, WV, the MBC year-long residency, some cool festivals are also on the bill, featuring Arts Alive Fest (Keller Williams headlining!) & FarmJammaLamma and some dates in Pittsburgh not to be missed! Please keep checking out our website and the FB page and thanks for being such good fans, everyone in BC knows what you do for us out there!

peace!

Black Coffee is hitting their stride on a 2 month stretch of weekend warrior shows and more! After relaxing for a week or two after New Year’s, and rehearsing new material, BC is ready for 2012, booking new shows every day and even lining up summer dates. The past month has been busy and bumpin’ and we couldn’t be happier.

The BC Winter tour party kicked off on January 27th at the Morgantown Brewing Company in Morgantown, WV. We always enjoy the adventure of playing at new venues, especially ones that make their own awesome beer! The MBC is a funky little place along the river, which has good food, one of the best Scotch Ales I’ve tasted, and you can’t go wrong with a place that has a foosball table! A certain bass player got owned that night on the table, but we will not mention names! We have lots of people to thank for making that night a success . . . Mama & Papa Cuneo (Thanks for the clean sheets and late night BBQ!) Sista Tessa and all of her friends from WVU for tearing up the dance floor, Sarah & all the staff for making us feel at home, Seth from Clarksburg, and Adam Payne. We are excited to be back at the MBC this Friday, 2/24 . . . hope to see you all there!

February began with us making another stop in Williamsport, PA, this time at Rumrunners Pub. The evening was made special by the appearance of Billtown legend, Charlie Moore. One of the great harmonica players in the area, Charlie sat in on a couple of tunes with us and of course RIPPED IT UP! Thanks again, man!

The following week we were back playing the town where the band got started, State College, PA. Saturday, the 10th found us at the Café 210 West playing an early evening set to some old and new friends. The Café is a great venue for music, with a nice stage, multi-lights, and sound system, plenty of dance space and when we need it, some fog! You just never know when the crowd wants to see a good dose of fog filling the place! Big thanks to Alyse Horn, a reporter of the arts for the Daily Collegian Newspaper, who came out and did a cool review of our performance. It was good to catch up with our main homey Micky, Eric and his posse of dancers, talented musicians John Wise & Tom Moore, and of course Phil our sound man did a fantastic job! Thanks again, JR. See you all soon.

The next night, Ryan, Caitlin and Vince were down at Zeno’s Pub playing an acoustic set, with good friends Harold & Eileen beginning the night. The guitarist / violin duo played great together so don’t miss them! Always good to see the folks at Zeno’s from our days as a weekly act. Never forget your roots. Thanks, Dave & staff!

Thursday night, on Feb. 16th, Black Coffee was back in Pittsburgh, on the north side at a sweet spot called the James Street Gastropub and Speakeasy. As you may know, the group loves playing Pittsburgh and we always feel a hometown vibe when we play anywhere in the city. The Pub & Speakeasy is a great place to hear live music. Located downstairs from the restaurant above, you really feel a New Orleans speakeasy mojo in this place, and we can’t wait to get back, with a date in April already scheduled. Thanks to Adam and Pierce for taking care of us, the Cuneo’s family & friends and to the fellas from the Shelf Life String Band (a bluegrass group in the area not to be missed) who happened to be there enjoying some drinks that night and caught our show. We look forward to returning to the James Street pub on Thursday, April 12th.

Caitlin and The Professor

BC continued our run playing a tight set at one of our favorite venues in Harrisburg, PA, the HMAC on Herr Street. We had the privilege to be included in this year’s Millennium Music Conference and we couldn’t be more thrilled with the results! We got to hit some of the panel discussions where we heard an insightful speech given by E. Michael Harrington. The Black Coffee crew had a blast the entire weekend and we saw some exceptional music on Friday night at the HMAC, where we had a great night playing to a very receptive crowd, who clapped after solos and roared with appreciation each time Caitlin really let her voice soar. It took all of BC 2 days to come down after that show! One of the best things about the MMC was meeting all of the other musicians, and rapping to them about the road and how they made it to the conference and just digging each other’s love for music. There were 2 bands I thought killed that evening, first up, Dan Miraldi & the Albino Winos, a cool high-energy punk band from Cleveland, OH. who left every ounce of sweat on the stage. They reminded me of a twisted combination of the Clash, Mick Jagger and 70’s glam. You can’t help but respect passion from fellow musicians giving their heart and soul out to the masses. The other band that I thought brought their “A” game was Aristotle Jones & the Like Minds. Fronted by the soulful singing and guitar work of Aristotle Jones, this band mixes a blend of R&B, hip-hop and funk to create some unique sounds of their own. The quartet is based out of Morgantown WV, and we’ll be seeing them this weekend in their neck of the woods. Also, they will be joining us at this year’s Arts on the River music festival, which is free AND features Keller Williams!! Did I mention this is FREE?!! Thanks again, Dave for the sound, always a great job, and no easy task this time with doing sound for 5 different bands in one night! Good to see friends Tyler, Adam, Mike, Kelley, Theresa, Matt and Dan . . . thanks for coming and for hanging with us that night!

Ending the 4 week run on a chill mode, Vince and Caitlin did an acoustic set at P.J. Kelly’s in Clarksburg WV, opening for this funky/hip-hop outfit out of Syracuse NY., named Sophistafunk. Thanks to C.J. for putting the show together and we’ll be seeing all of you folks on Friday, March 2nd when the full band will be playing the entire evening, which will include an all-night after party! Details coming soon!

Black Coffee would like to thank a few folks who have been putting in their own free time to help us spread the word about our music. Big thanks to the crew at Touchfaster, especially Pierce and Brandon, who took a professional photo shoot of the band, and streamed it online! The pictures are looking great and more are on the way. They spent the entire afternoon setting up the shoot, even hauling in some vintage furniture and props. People in the P-burgh area need to pay attention to these guys at Touchfaster; they are promoting the arts scene in your area and doing a crazy good job! Also, we want to give a shout out to Chelsey Engel. She is another visual artist in the Pittsburgh area helping to promote music and the arts via her webpage, ‘Bands of the Burgh.’ She has taken some cool shots of the band, did a nice interview with Caitlin & Vince, and even made a video of our last performance at the James Street Gastropub & Speakeasy.

Many MANY shows are coming up very soon, including an acoustic evening with Caitlin and Vince at Black Bear Burritos this Thursday night 2/23 and the Morgantown Brewing Company show I was telling you all about before, on Friday 2/24, where the full band will be funkin’ & soulin’ for you all! March is coming up next week and we are all over the map for that month! We’ll be in Clarksburg, WV, on the 2nd, then our first performance in NYC on the 10th, and then back to Harrisburg, PA, to play for the first time at the Abbey Bar. So, please keep checking our website for all the details on the shows and where we will be playing next! See you all in WV this Friday!

peace!

Hey Funksters and Soul stirrers, Black Coffee hopes the New Year is going smoothly and that your thoughts are on the coming Spring weather which will be here before we all know it. BC has a bunch of dates booked all over the northeast and we are currently lining up some festival dates for the summer. If you have any suggestions of musical festivals you would like to see BC at, email us and let us know!

First off, we would like to tell you that Keith Kavanaugh has decided to join the BC crew permanently on bass. He did a great job subbing in for us last month and we couldn’t be happier to have him in the band and on the road with us for the future.

Well, BC is on the move again and excited to hit some new venues this year. Our first date will be this Friday, January 27th, at the Morgantown Brewing Company in Morgantown, West Virginia, home of the Mountaineers and where Soul Sista Tessa goes to school! For the next 3 months, Black Coffee will be playing the last Friday of the month at the MBC. This will be our first time there and we have heard great things about the venue and the beer. To catch a little sampling of BC, check out Caitlin and Vince the night before doing an acoustic set at Black Bear Burritos down on Pleasant Street in Morgantown, then the next night get your funk shoes on and come to the MBC to hear the full band kickin’ it!

February 4th we are back in Keith’s stomping grounds in Williamsport, PA, playing once again at Rumrunners Pub & Eatery down on Market Street. Billtown is always a great time and Rumrunners is one of the funkiest joints in the area! The following week on Saturday, February 11th, Black Coffee comes back to State College, PA to perform a family friendly set at Cafe 210 West from 7 – 9:30. State College is the birthplace of BC so we always have a good time when we get back to playing venues in the area. On Thursday, February 16th, catch us down in Pittsburgh for our first full band performance at the James Street Gastropub and Speakeasy, a stage we are all looking forward to hit! Friday, February 17th, we will be in Harrisburg, PA playing as part of this year’s Millennium Music Conference! As many of you know, the MMC is a 4 day-long event, at various music spots in Harrisburg, with many different styles of bands performing. The MMC has a snazzy website where you can check out all the events and times. Black Coffee hits at 9pm at the HMAC on Herr Street, one of the city’s best places to see live music. Four great chances to see BC in central PA, before the next month of dates takes us further out, including a trip to NYC.

Caitlin

The past couple of weeks we’ve been in the basement practicing and working on some new songs that we can’t WAIT to play for you all. 3 fresh new originals full of funk and soul and some inspiring vocals from Caitlin, plus 2 covers from the 70′s R&B vaults done the Black Coffee way. That’s 5 new ones in the set with more to come.

Mr. Friendly is busy working the phones this very second and a couple of Pittsburgh gigs are in the works, so stay tuned! Also, March is looking crazier than February so please keep an eye on our tour dates and Facebook page to keep up to date on where the BC crew is playing next.

One final thing . . . please take a second and vote for us to play at this year’s Floydfest. Thanks!

peace!

Black Coffee has been rollin’ all over the place the past couple of weeks and is in full swing on the Winter Holidays tour. We just played 5 gigs over eight days and we are now home for a minute or so before a couple of shows this upcoming weekend. The cold weather is settling in across the country, but BC remains HOT!

On Dec. 3rd we hauled down to Pittsburgh, back to one of our favorite venues to play, the Thunderbird Cafe, and opened for the great 9 piece powerhouse funk/soul band Sister Sparrow & the Dirty Birds. Caitlin really let it fly for this show and her voice was in top form, especially on our song Working Hard. We saw a lot of familiar faces in the audience, including the Cuneo family and some of the folks from the Flood City Music Festival, which always adds a little something when we play. Feelin’ the love. We have to thank, Mike for doing a great job running the sound, and of course Ben and all the peeps at Grey Area Productions for asking us to play. Grey Area is really helping to promote the funk & soul scene in the Pittsburgh region, so check out what shows they are bringing our way.

Black Coffee at Zeno's

Monday night, the 5th, we were back at Zeno’s to play their annual Holiday party and as usual it was off the hook! BC hit at midnight and went past 2 am for the good folks who work there and friends of friends of the Zeno’s crew. Big thanks to Dave for asking us to play again, and to all the Atlas Soundtrack peeps for partying all night, and of course to our main man Micky New, who brought down his guitar and sat in with us on a few tunes, he was ripping it up!!!

The night was a little bittersweet for us in BC as our soul brother in arms, Dre has decided to move on from Black Coffee and focus on other musical aspects of his life. We will miss his funky bass ways, and over the last 6 months his skills and knowledge of music have really helped the band move forward. I’m sure we will cross paths again. Thanks Funky Dre, peace until the next episode!

BC started another 3 day run in Williamsport, PA. playing at the Bullfrog Brewery this past Thursday. The band went searching for a replacement bass player to aide us on our Winter Tour, and luckily we didn’t have to go far. Billtown’s own, Keith Kavanaugh will be holding down the low end for the rest of 2011. Keith learned 25 songs in a week and you couldn’t tell. We had a great time as usual at the Bullfrog where the music was flowing like the Edgar IPA out of the tap! Mike, Chris and the rest of the staff really takes care of us here and we can’t thank them enough, especially Chris who let us crash at his place and get a little foosball game in before bedtime. Thanks to all the folks who stayed late and who came across the street from the Judy Collins Christmas Spectacular to have a drink and watch us play a bit!! And to Charlie Moore . . . bring the harmonicas back the next time we play!

Abilene Bar & Lounge

After a horrible breakfast/lunch at the Heartburn diner, and ordering orange juice before being told breakfast was over, we headed north to Rochester, NY to play at the Abilene Bar & Lounge. We played in New York once before last winter and we were psyched to get back up there to funk it out. After checking into a classy Microtel, complete with a small mattress above the heater with enough room for Keith to curl up and get some zzzz’s, we headed to the Abilene and found it to be one of the funkiest joints we’ve hit to date! A former brothel from the 1800′s, this place had more rooms and hidden doorways then the White House! The crowd really enjoys funk and soul music, playing and dancing to Otis Redding and James Brown before and after our set. The staff was great to us, FREE DALE’S AND OLD CHUBS, hell yes! And Danny, thanks for the hospitality and hooking us up with a room to chill in before the show. We should be back there early spring, we’ll keep you posted.

The final stop of the weekend was on Saturday in Syracuse, NY. Just a short drive from Rochester, we were able to get a few winks in after checking into the Best Western in nearby Weedsport. When we find ourselves going to a new destination, besides finding the venue spot our next question is always, where can we find some good food?! Well, we found it . . . Dinosaur Bar-B-Que! Some of the best bbq I have ever had outside of the southern states. A great recommendation from lots of peeps who have been there to witness and participate in the mass stuffing over the belly! That night we were at the Funk & Waffles downtown in the campus area and played a set of funk of course for the good folks of Syracuse. Thanks to the staff for making us some great coffee drinks and waffles and big thanks to Sophistafunk for having us out.

The tour continues this Friday, December 16th at the Red Horse Tavern in Pleasant Gap, PA. The food is good and the drinks are cheap, the band will be funky, what more could you want? I will tell you! We have Randy running the place and the kitchen!! We start at 9 and go to 11pm and play 2 sets. So, come out early, sit down for some good grub and enjoy some music.

The next day, Saturday, December 17th we are back in Harrisburg to play for the first time at Mangia Qui, a cool tapas bar/restaurant serving European cuisine, located on North Street. Again, we play an early set from 9 – 11pm and the band is excited to hit some more of our soul numbers to go with the cozy, friendly atmosphere. We hope to see all of our friends in the area out for a good night of food and music. What could be better than that?!

Last chance for 1st run shirts!

A quick note: BC will be back in Pittsburgh for a special Holiday show on 12/30 at the Club Cafe on the Southside. The Suicide Burns (members of P-burgh’s own Boogie Hustlers) will be the opener and tickets are on sale now, so don’t wait!! This night will be our last show of 2011 and promises to be a great time. So come and party BEFORE the New Year’s parties and get your weekend started off on the good foot!

If you haven’t picked one up yet, we still have t-shirts, including a few left of the first run, which are now becoming desirable collector’s items! So don’t sleep on the merchandise. We have t-shirts, cds and some cool little buttons for sale, perfect gifts for the Holidays. Email us to get your BC gear.

Check out the latest video blog created by Vince . . . some extra special goodies in there, like Mr. Biz’s invention, scenes from a former brothel AND Funky Dre laying it DOWN on bass!!!

Black Coffee in the barn at Camp Kevin, home of FarmJammaLamma

First off, we would like to thank Kevin and Jodie and the entire FarmJammaLamma crew for having us out a couple of weekends ago. If you have not been to a show in the barn you are missing out! (I use the word “barn” loosely here since it is more like a huge tripped-out studio complete with X-mas lights and a disco ball!) Even though it was a freezing cold night when we hit the stage, we warmed the crowd with some funk and helped to keep the party rollin’. BC can’t wait to get back there this summer.

After the Thanksgiving party throw-down at Lynn’s Pub in C-ville on Saturday, November 26th, the following Saturday we are playing a concert at the Thunderbird Cafe in Pittsburgh, opening for the great nine-piece soul band out of Brooklyn, Sister Sparrow & the Dirty Birds. It’s a real honor to be on the same bill as them and you better not sleep on this band, because they are seconds away from blowin’ up! A nice bonus for the Black Coffee crew is to be back at the Thunderbird Cafe. We opened for the funk band out of Chicago, Lubriphonic, there this past year and everything about the place is great, cool stage, split level flooring, awesome beers on tap, great food and the best staff in the area. Thanks again to Grey Area Productions for having us out to perform.

2011 Winter Tour

In a couple of weeks, BC is headed back to New York State for 2 shows. On December 9th we are in Rochester at the Abilene Bar & Lounge and on December 10th we take the stage at Funk & Waffles in Syracuse. We are excited to be at both places for the first time and to give the people of New York a great funk and soul show. The band, Technicolor Brothers, featuring Derek Kirch, will be opening at the Funk & Waffles for us and we are all looking forward to a great time!

Check out the Black Coffee FB page and our website to find out all the upcoming dates on the tour and to stay informed on our latest happenings, including ways to get free tickets and merch.

We are currently booking dates for 2012, so let us know where you want to us perform next year!

Black Coffee is on the move again! Mr. Friendly and Mr. Biz (aka the Legend), have been busy! Many shows have been booked and we are waiting for the good word on a couple of others. First up is this Friday, November 4th in Brookville, PA. The band Sweet Earth is hosting the event at Camp Kevin (site of FarmJammaLamma), and yes, there are rumors of a giant bonfire to keep it warm and toasty! Several great bands from the P-burgh area will also be playing, starting at 5pm and Black Coffee goes on at 9. What could be better on a Friday night after a long week of work, then hanging with your friends and watching some music on the farm?? We’ll see you all out there for the festivities.

On October 21st, BC played their 1 year anniversary show down at Club Cafe in Pittsburgh. We love playing this city and the crowd’s vibe is always ready for the party and the funk! Aabaraki, a funky band from Brooklyn, opened for us and they were lights out!! They drove 10 straight hours, piled out of their ride, hit the stage, blew minds, made us dance, then were off on the road again! If you missed us, check out the video of BC playing Voodoo Woman courtesy of Aabaraki’s guitarist Brian Forbes, and also see Vince’s latest video blog. I’m sure BC will be playing a show with them again very soon. Grab their cd and support a bunch of hard working musicians. Thanks to the Club Cafe folks, and especially Denny the soundman. He use to live in State College and get into trouble with a bunch of the local musicians there from waaaaayyyy back in the day. Great guy and we hope to see him again.

Miss Cuneo (Club Cafe)

One show we just announced that I’m personally very excited for is at the Thunderbird Cafe in P-burgh opening for Sister Sparrow & The Dirty Birds, a great 9 piece soul and rhythm & blues band that is currently on a country wide tour and is BLOWING UP! So, catch them at an intimate venue at one of the best places for live music in the city (Saturday 12/3!).

The winter tour is beginning to take shape and I feel we truly kick things off this season with a hometown gig in Connellsville, PA. On Saturday, November 26th we hit the stage at Lynn’s Pub. We hope to help celebrate Thanksgiving Day with friends and family at THE place to be in C-ville. We’ve played here before and the party was BUMPIN’!!

AIGHTSSSS! The snow is coming and we know you need warmed up! Sign up for our email updates if you haven’t and please pass on the good word of Black Coffee to your friends. We’ll you see you at Camp Kevin this Friday night!

Sup, sup family and friends?! Black Coffee has been WORKING! We just booked some great shows in and out of the great state of Pennsylvania and we couldn’t be more excited. Some new originals are in the works and we are currently planning our winter tour with some dates already booked in the land of Mountaineers.

Black Coffee @ Club Cafe, 10/21

In late September, BC rocked and souled a couple of places in PA and one down in Virginia on another one of our 3-day runs. First up was the Red Horse Tavern in Pleasant Gap, the home of one Mr. Alford and a few short miles away from State College. We truly love playing this tavern, one of our first regular venues and the man Randy, owner and chef, is always the best. Between sets we were able to celebrate our good friend Tish’s birthday! We had a chocolate cake and some lovely singing by everyone in the place. Thanks for all who came out, the usual suspects and to the fans from Elk Creek.

The next night, BC was in Pittsburgh playing a set at an arts/music show at the Hideout. Many artists from the Burgh area were displaying their works as performers Black Coffee, Baby in a Cage, Harmon Creek and Back Stabbing Good People played sets of music. A big thanks to all the peeps from Touchfaster, Pierce, Rachel and Brando . . . if you don’t know already, Touchfaster is helping to promote and establish an arts & music scene in their neck of the woods, so find them on FB and see what’s going on!!

As with all of our outdoor festival gigs this past year, the rain was falling until we start playing, then the rain starts back up after we leave the stage! (Side note: Sincere apologies to the The Ridge gas station . . . Vince did not mean to attempt to drive away with the gas nozzle still in his gas tank. Thanks for understanding.) It was good meeting the folks at the festival and playing some morning breakfast music for you all. We hope to make it back to the fest next year.

If you don’t know (now you know) BC is celebrating its 1 year anniversary with a show this Friday, 10/21, at Club Cafe in Pittsburgh, PA!! The band is very excited about this show. Our friends Aabaraki from Brooklyn will be opening up the night and then we go on to close the festivities. Bring your dancin’ shoes and loose hips cuz it WILL get funky in that club on Friday. We will have new t-shirts for sale, and don’t worry for you folks who saw the coffee cup design, we are working on that and should have cups for sale soon. Come down, say hi, bring a friend or your lover and be ready to PARTY!!

Big thanks to the P-burgh City Paper and My Rural Radio for helping to spread the Black Coffee love!

We have some new shows listed on our website and FB page and more dates for this year and 2012 are being confirmed as I type! BC is busy expanding to playing outside of PA, including WV, NY and a show coming soon in VT, so sign up for our new fan email list and look for us in your area soon.

Black Coffee is rolling along and ready for the autumn weather. We are adding more and more dates over the next couple of weeks, so keep checking up on the new website for shows in your area. BC has played shows every month since October of 2010, the same month we formed, and there are no plans of slowing down. So, join us at our shows in October to help Black Coffee celebrate its 1 year anniversary!!

Black Coffee and Chevy at the HMAC

Last month we were back at the HMAC in Harrisburg, which we consider one of the best places to play and see a show, not just in the H-burg, but anywhere in the state. The HMAC always has quality acts and the venue is perfect for live music, and includes great pieces of art installations, paintings and sculptures by some of the best local artist in the area. Before BC hit the stage, Hexbelt from York, PA played an opening set of music, complete with a homemade cigar-box guitar and a 4 string guitar made out of a bed-pan! I kid you not. Check them out! Once again, we had a great time, and John and the staff are some of the best people in the business. We saw a lot of new faces in the crowd and it was good to see our friend Chevy who always makes it out when we play in his neck of the woods. The next gig was at the world famous Chuck’s Farm! A tradition going back over 25 years and counting, Chuck has been having a festival on his farm around harvest time each year and we were honored to be asked to play after Chuck heard us and boogied down at our 4th of July gig this past year. The constant rain made for muddy conditions, but that didn’t stop the enthusiasm of the festival. Thanks to Chuck and the folks who checked us out and we hope to be back next year!

Coming up, BC has another 3-day run this weekend. First, we’ll be playing at the Red Horse Tavern in Pleasant Gap, PA on Friday, Sept. 23rd. We always look forward to the Red Horse gigs and seeing our man Randy! We play from 9 – 11pm, a nice early set for all those who can’t stay awake into the wee hours. Come early and get some great food as well.

On Saturday, Sept. 24th, we will be back in Pittsburgh performing at the Hideout on Bates Street for their Equinox party. We love playing in the Burgh and this show promises to be a rager! Many bands are playing and visual artists will be doing their thang as the music rolls. Look for us in the area over the next few months as we are booking more and more shows in one of our favorite cities.

To finish up the weekend we are honored to have been selected to play at this year’s Spaghettifest hosted by the funksters Midnight Spaghetti and the Chocolate G-Strings. The festival is down in Greenville, VA at the Stoney Creek Camp Resort starting Friday and going until Sunday. The tickets are cheap and all proceeds go to charity, so you not only get to see over 30 great bands, but you are also supporting a good cause. We start our set at Noon on Sunday, so come down, do some camping and get your dance on!

Make sure to check out the new video log created by our own guitar slayer, Vince Cuneo! See how our Flood City show went and other crazy happenings. Some big announcements coming soon!!

peace!
